Sarmentosa is a Latin reference to this Peruvian native's long, slender branches that are runners. They root in soil from points on their stems called growth nodes, similar to the way strawberries grow and form new plants. In baskets or next to retaining walls, Running Peruvian Sage forms a low, lush mound, then gracefully hangs over wall or pot edges.
Similar to Salvia microphylla (Mountain Sage), the branches of Running Peruvian Sage become woody like a shrub. For best results, provide average watering, well-drained soil, and partial shade.
