(Hybrid Bolivian Sage) This naturally occurring hybrid is a Bolivian native related to S. orbignaei and S. haenkei. Prettier than its parents, it has large, profuse, long-blooming flowers that are dark pink.
Hybrid Bolivian Sage is erect and symmetrical when young with dark green foliage. Its lance-like leaves are 3 to 4 inches long. This plant tends to sprawl as it grows. One good way to display it is planted at the base of another sage for support, such as Salvia x 'Big Swing' or Salvia darcyi.
An ideal container plant, it also looks attractive as a groundcover or in a perennial border. We're still learning about its cold tolerance; it may be that this sage is hardier than is now thought.
